Cape Alava Trail

A few summers ago we drove out to the northern Washington coast hoping to camp in one of the national parks. All of the parks were full by the time we got there on a Friday evening so we found a private campground near Ozette Lake called Lost Resort. It was really empty that weekend which was nice. There was a camp store, and a flushing toilet.

Near the campground was Ozette Lake, and the trail head for the Cape Alava trail.  This is a 3 mile trail out to the ocean. The hike was mostly flat, with some boardwalks along the way. If you have all day, you can hike the Ozette triangle which is 9.4 miles (3 miles out, 3 miles on the beach, 3 miles back in).  Once we were on the beach we saw a lot of wildlife including eagles, and even a decaying sea lion carcass.
