As one of the members of the “triangle of fire” (the other two are Fort Worden and Fort Flager), Fort Casey was strategically placed on Whidbey Island to help protect the inner Puget Sound. Fort Casey State Park is a huge area with a conference center, pool, bunkers and batteries to explore, a light house to tour, and lots of walking trails. It’s a great place to bring a large group for a picnic.
Did, I mention that you can camp right next to the beach? You could spend you days watching the sea life and the Washington State ferry come in and out. This campsite has always seemed so dreamy to me. If you do want to camp here, make sure you reserve your spot, this place is always full when I visit!
