After being closed for 25 years, Deschutes Falls Park is open again and it’s a beauty. The park was used as a campground from the 1940’s to 1980’s, and Thurston County purchased the land and it’s been closed since the 1990’s.
The park is easy to find off google maps (the address is 25005 Bald Hill Rd SE, Yelm, WA 98597), and there are county signs along the road pointing you in the right direction. The parking lot is small but wasn’t full when we got there or left.
There are not really any signs or maps to look for information on where to go, but you can just wander through the newly built trails. The largest waterfalls are just a short walk from the parking lot, and there are a few other viewpoints of the river at the park. My fitbit tracked about a mile of walking total.
This is a great spot for privacy and a nature walk. We saw other people on the trails, but we were the only people at each viewpoint. There are a few spots for a refreshing dip into the river in the summertime.
